03. Why restore the castle?

The castle is entirely surrounded by water and built on timber piles. Fortunately, its foundations have been checked and studied and are in good condition. No, the castle will not sink!

But after 500 years, the castle is now in need of substantial maintenance. Although its old age is a factor, the transformation works of the 19th and 20th centuries, ranging from the confinement of certain woodwork to the removal of structural elements, has also played a key role in its degradation.
