Aims and Objectives

The emphasis will be put on the benefits that can be gained by a correct exploitation of data collected in the right way.

Description

Descriptive statistics: univariate data (definitions, diagrams, central and dispersion parameters), interval univariate data, 2-variables data (definitions, diagrams, stereograms, curves fitting).

Basics of probability theory: Kolmogorv axioms, Bayes’ theorem, random variables (distribution functions, probability density functions, central and dispersion functions), theoretical distributions (binomial distribution, Poisson’s distribution, normal distribution, Student’s distribution, χ2 distribution…), couples of random variables.

Statistical inference: sampling (point and interval estimates of the mean and the variance of a population or a percentage…), hypothesis testing, tests for goodness of fit, industrial examples
