Aims and Objectives

Approaching mental health and welfare notions as main factors of effective communication. Acquiring personal skills and competencies in help relationship and counselling in the field of nursing practice. Progressive building up of help relationships with patients

Description

Mental health :

  • Mental health: definition, factors of influence, difference of the problem of mental health and the problem of mental disease; nursing role relatong to mental health.
  • The person:notion of unicity and global nature, biological, intellectual, emotive, social and spiritual elements.
  • Theory of human needs: Maslow’s pyramid
  • Introspection: importance for the self knowledge and for the progress relating to competence of communication with the patients, their familial circle
  • Basic notion of stress and anxiety

Communication - relation:

  • Scheme of communication
  • Notions of representation
  • Essential attitudes in order to communication of quality ( respect, positive consideration, impartiality, tolerance, patience...)
  • Deefinition of two types of communication: verbal and no verbal- various communicative behaviors
  • Four levels of relation: civility, of functional nature, of understanding, support, relationship
  • Various types of support
  • Tools of relation: the message “I” , the listening, the observation.

Clinical teaching of the 1st and the 2nd year.

Aims and Objectives

Acquisition of a resolution process of problems adapted to the hospital and extra-hospital nursing care and based on the notion of transferable assets.

Initiation to scientific research.

Integration of polyvalent professional behaviours ensuring an adequate response to the needs of the health care sector and allowing freedom of movement in the European Economic Community.

Description

Distribution of the training courses ( Moniteur belge du 12/07/94 and modifications):

  • 260 hours at least with hospitalised children and adults:

o 60 hours minimum in pediatry;

o 100 hours minimum in surgery;

o 100 hours minimum in medicine.

· 100 hours minimum wit elderly people

· 60 hours in service out of hospital with 30 hours minimum in residence care

· 120 hours (choice of the establishment/student ).

The training courses are carried out :

· in the University Hospital Complex of Sart Tilman (Liège)

· in the Regional Hospital Complex of the Citadelle ( Liège)

· in the Hospital Complex of the Bois de l’Abbaye and Hesbaye ( Seraing)

· in the Clinic André Renard ( Herstal)

· in the Clinic of the ISoSL

· in the Catholic Hospital Complex ( Montegnée-Rocourt)
